Ecuador: Amazing Amazon to Andes Ride – ADVMoto

michnus

7th August 2023

How good can it get? The world is packed into a small country to explore from snow-capped volcanoes to warm oceans and the Amazon.

“Unbeknownst to us, the road we took after entering Ecuador was into a bit of a “cocaine-up-the-nose” drug cartel area, occupied by shady characters who black market timber from the Amazon.
The path was only partially shown on maps, and we thought it would be good to explore there, as it would take us into the Amazonian area of Ecuador, not along the usual well-trodden highways.

We soon found out why so few travel there.”

With a bit of map research, it’s possible to find the impressive and engaging dirt tracks crisscrossing the Andes mountains in Ecuador. It is motorcycle adventure touring heaven. Motorcycle rider on dirt road in the mountains

This article first appeared in Advmoto Magazine. We crisscrossed Ecuador for 3 months, riding into the Amazon, and up to Chimborozo the highest volcano in the world. Just to end up lazying around the warm water beaches.

Ecuador is a power pack small country of adventures and endless treasures to explore. Nothing could have prepared us for the overwhelming number of sights, sounds, variety of dramatic landscapes, and culture that Ecuador showed us.

We debated whether Ecuador could be named as one of the top five countries that offer the most mind-blowing experiences for the time spent in one country. Add to that the fact that Ecuador is a safe and easy country to travel to; it’s one heck of an attractive motorcycling destination.

Famous volcanic crater Lake Quilotoa is a heart-stirring sight and 1.86 miles wide. Local folklore romantically tells it has no bottom, but geologists say 820 feet. The crater is at 12,800 feet elevation, a strenuous hike down to the lake and back.
