Feeling a bit embarrassed to say we love some inspirational travel quotes. Some travel quotes, however, succeed to highlight the real truths about adventure, life and travel.
Motorcycle overlanders are a rather different bunch of misfits with a bizarre taste for the unknown and a healthy dose of adventure spirit. We wondered what inspired other crackerjack overlanders to sell up their homes, leave their day jobs and the comfort of home behind to tackle such adventures.
We asked a few motorcycle travellers for their personal favourite quotes.
Whether you have just returned from an adventure or you are currently on an epic journey, or are still trying to convince your inner self to take the leap. We hope they inspire you to pack your bike. Explore our planet and to see the world for what it really is.
The quotes include links to their websites and or social media pages. Check them out!
If you are sharing them please be so kind as to keep the credit for them and us.

Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes in the middle of nowhere you find yourself.
Sair da zona de conforto, criar o seu proprio mundo.
Travel adds colour to the tapestry of life. The more your travel, the more colourful your tapestry –
Cross the desert in a car – you are in the car….Cross the desert on a motorbike, you are in the desert
Very true Roddy! Thanks for sharing the quotes.
When you travel long distances on a motorcycle and you live within a helmet for long periods of time, eventually you will find yourself! I know this is true because I did!
It’s only kinky if your not into it!!
And I ask to myself, What is beyond that curve? I ride, and then the same question rise again and again and again and again and again…
Very cool quote Manual!
Really inspiring and cherishing quotes.
I put together a few motorcycle quotes here:
http://ineverfinishanyth.blogspot.com/2011/12/selected-motorcycle-quotes.html
A few of my faves:
Dad, can I get a motorcycle when I grow up?”
“Son, you can’t do both.”
I’d rather be riding my motorcycle thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my motorcycle.
I spent all my money on motorcycles, guns, rock and roll music, whiskey and women…the rest I just wasted.
Riding in a car is like watching a movie. Riding a motorcycle is like starring in a movie.
A motorcycle functions entirely in accordance with the laws of reason, and a study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniature study of the art of rationality itself. That’s all the motorcycle is, a system of concepts worked out in steel. – Robert M. Pirsig (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance)
It didn’t look that far on the map…
Riding a motorcycle isn’t a matter of Life or Death. It’s much more important than that.
The only person who can stop you from achieving your dreams, is no one else bit yourself…..

My favorite is simply “The interruptions ARE journey” – Ted Simon… Although I really like Roddy’s Cross the desert in a car quote ?
Where’s mine?
Donno, send me one 😀
“Don’t forget to take a risk today” Hubert Kriegal (atimelessride.com)
Going again in three weeks. Can’t wait
You don’t stop riding when you get old. you get old when you stop riding.
I like
I was 14 when I got on a motorcycle, I’m now 71 and still riding! Truly believe in JP’s quote, “you get old when u stop riding’.
Great stuff Raymond! Coming from such experience as yourself it can only be true 🙂
“A motorcycle with out scratches has no character…” an older rider told me this, in Seattle,WA in June 2008 when I told him that a was worry about dropping my bike on my way to Alaska and he went on talking to me trying to make me see what he meant,I did ! And now after a few trips under my belt I can joyfully say that my bike has a lot of CHARACTER !
Absolutely agree, bike got to have character! 😀
Great Sharing I Like your vision.
thanks David 🙂
very nice
Travel slow you want to remember where you have been, Travel too fast and all you will remember is what the road was like
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if your in a Mansion or a Mud Hut. It’s all about the people you are with.

One thing that motivates me to keep traveling when I’m depressed is to ask myself:
If death came looking for you right now, where would it find you?
Living the life others want you to live, or living the life others want you to live?
This question is of my own making
I agree with you. Very well said…
I’ve always loved the motorcycle, as a young man I rode to ride with family and friends. As we all got older, that all faded. I’m the youngest of 6 boys. There’s only 3 of us left. Out of the 3 of us, I’m the only one that ever had motorcycles. In 2015 I turned 62 years old, I bought my first Harley Davidson. I have rode this motorcycle more than any other motorcycle I’ve ever had, and I rode it alone with no other riders on long trips. The wife is afraid now that she’s older. In early February 2024 I turned 71, I’m a native New Yorker, I haven’t lived in NY since 1988. I now live in Virginia Beach, VA. I have rode to Tennessee and back, to Northern Pennsylvania, they’re not very long rides. But they’re longer than any rides I did as a young man. I’m retired almost a year now and ready to ride to Florida to visit family, not Daytona. I have very little interest in Daytona. I thought about riding to South Dakota to visit one of my sons. I gave in to my wife’s wishes, I don’t regret my decision, I respect my wife’s feelings. We lived in South Central Pennsylvania for 28 years, I did have a motorcycle but never went very far. My sons and I got into ATC’s and then ATV’s. I have my ATV 22 years, and I have no doubts about taking it anywhere to ride. I love the words I have read here. I’m inspired by them, and happy for the people who enjoyed their time traveling on their motorcycles. Which is why I shared my experiences.
Hi Anthony, it is an incredible story, thanks for sharing with us 🙂
