The best collection advmoto tales – “The Moment Collectors”

michnus

30th January 2022

In a celebration of motorcycle overlanding, 20 authors share the surprises and all the natural drama of motorcycle travel in one book

Open for correction, this must probably be a first for the adventure riding community on this scale of contribution. Sam Manicom a raconteur, mensch and exceptional literary artisan made this unique project a reality. Sam got a group of adventure moto lovers as a pure celebration to do an anthology of extraordinary advmoto travel stories in one book.

‘The Moment Collectors’! Such a fitting title for the twenty travellers’ tales from around the World.

To be asked by Sam to be part of this project was such an incredible honour. Especially being part of a group of next-level experienced adventure travellers and accomplished storytellers.

The Moment Collectors

To cap it off, Sam thought the photo I took of Elsebie on Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia would be perfect for the cover of the book. I have no words, it is such an incredibly proud and humbling experience for me. We truly hope the energetic inspirational stories in this book will have people’ fingers itching to go create their own stories and memories.

“In a celebration of motorcycle overlanding, twenty authors share the surprises and all the natural drama of travel; no hype, but the fun, the laughter, the high points and the lows, the challenges and the outcomes.“

Sam Manicon

The intention is to give people something fun and optimistic to read; entertainment full of “I didn’t know that” moments and encouragement to explore. The author’ brief has been to tell a story within a chapter that highlights one of those moments on the road when all of a sudden you get the sensation. ‘Yes, this is what it’s all about!’

Woven into each tale you will discover the moment where each author found the reason they are out there living their dreams when it suddenly and wonderfully comes to life. Every motorcyclist and travel fan will enjoy sharing the pure joy of these moments.

The Moment Collectors shares twenty epic vivid experiences of the adventurous life on the road from Africa, Central Asia, South and North America, and Europe. It is a motley crüe of overlanding motorcyclists contributors, some are hugely experienced globe-riders but in the mix are noobs who are new to exploring on two wheels and even others riding two-up, some ride in pairs, and there are solo riders too.

The launch date is Feb 19th but you can pre-order your copy now.

Amazon and Nook – At the time we doing the official launch we will be making the Kindle version live and also the Nook and Amazon Print on Demand version too. The hard copies can be sent to most countries in the world.

Sam Manicom, Under the Visor Interview

About Sam the man that made this project a reality.

Sam learned to ride a motorcycle and within 3 months of starting to ride, he set off to travel the length of Africa. His one-year trip turned into an eight-year, 200,000 mile, motorcycle adventure across 55 countries around the world. His four books Into Africa, Under Asian Skies, Distant Suns (Southern Africa, and South and Central America) and Tortillas to Totems (North America)

Sam met his partner Birgit in New Zealand in year two of his epic trip, she joined him for the latter four years across Africa (again), South, Central and Northern America. Sam and Brigit still ride the 1971 BMW R60/5.

‘Sam Manicom is probably one of the most respected, foremost, authentic, and most read adventure motorcycle writer today. His knack for storytelling stands out from the crowd due to his keen perception of people and cultures and his deep love and passion for motorcycle travel.
In a world inundated with superficial no-substance media and social media, Sam’ writing still conveys the innocence, authenticity and true love for the combined game we call adventure motorcycle travel and everything it encompasses.

Excerpts

“The road transformed from a thin layer of mud into a full-on mud stew that the tires could no longer sink their teeth into.”
Tim Notier

“Herds of goats would tap dance past the front door, spitting noisily, as geckos slid ninja-like up the smooth concrete and disappeared deep into the cracks in the walls…”
EmmaLucy Cole

“Snowcapped stratovolcanoes and mountain peaks soared in the distance. At this high altitude, the clean, crisp, cold air made for vivid, sharp images wherever we pointed our eyes.”
Michnus Olivier

“Waking up in a cold sweat, I sat up trying to clear my head and take in the surroundings. Where in the hell was I?”
Dan Byers
