Keep It Simple Stupid – Why the Suzuki DR650 dualsport motorcycle is such a loved icon.

The Suzuki DR650 is like that trusty old friend who’s always up for an adventure, even if they’re not the flashiest one in the group. This motorcycle has been around for almost 30 years. It’s still popular for a reason: it’s simple, reliable, bloody competent, customisable and won’t break the bank.

Sure, it might not have all the bells and whistles of the latest bikes. But who needs them when you can explore dusty trails, paved highways, and everything in between? The DR650 is happy to go wherever you take it, and it’s easy to mod for different riding styles.

Some folks have put over 100,000 miles on their DR650s, and these bikes just keep on chugging. So, if you’re looking for a motorcycle that’s more about the journey than the destination, the DR650 is definitely worth checking out.

ADV Pulse magazine wrote a stunning article about the DR650 and why it is such a loved adventure dual sport motorcycle.

How to convert the dr650 for round-the-world travel

Bolivia is an adventure motorcycle heaven. From the moment we rode through the border post we had fun riding mountain passes, mud roads, salt lakes, and the Lagunas area at over 4500m altitude. Our motorcycles suffered at the extreme altitude but they managed to work enough so we can see the best of Lago Colorado the red lake and other unbelievable places in the South of Bolivia. In between, we had time to enjoyed local festivals, all before Covid stopped our journey in Sucre. This is a short clip to show you the mindblowing landscapes in Bolivia.

I’ve owned 54 bikes from mini bikes to super bikes. All the Japanese brands and BMWs as well as Triumphs. The DR 650 is my favourite bike of all time. It does everything okay, nothing brilliant but is always up to the task. Comfortable with a few mods and easy to maintain. The true sign of a great bike.
