From the ferry from Ssese to Entebbe from Ssese Island a Dutch traveller told us to go camp in the zoo in Entebbe. We all laughed at her, since when can you camp IN the zoo? It turned out to be true, and it was not some run down place with a few dead donkeys and two pigeons. They had rhino’s, lions, giraffe, chimpanzees the works, even a Shoebill stork. You are allowed to come and go as you please and in the evening if you wish stroll through the zoo without any other travellers.
Bata shoe shops are everywhere in Uganda. They even have this new rendition of our local Vellie on sale. This one is no ordinary version. It’s a vellie with the hairs of the goat or whatever the leather got source from. These Vellies is suave, debonair, really man about town, they will make a statement and impress!
We passed Kampala just picking up a new camera for Elsebie at one of the fancy malls where Game decided to move in because business is bad in SA they might score in Uganda. Like I said in my previous reports stay de hell away from cities, they are all the same up through Africa and if you’ve seen one you have seen them all. There’s much more interesting places to see in Africa than dirty over crowded congested cities. The people are never as friendly as with rural folke there’s nothing vibrant and alive about these big cities.
Our last stop over was in Jinja the town that is renowned for the source of the Nile, as it’s the only place where water flows out of lake Victoria and on route to Egypt.
Cheap ass, did not want to pay nearly 20$ to go down to the view point, so we did the second best thing and trespass.
We spend a total of 25 days in Uganda way more than our budget for time allowed, and it was still too short. To date it was my favourite country since we started the trip and I will be back for bloody sure.
Brilliant! Thanks for posting.
Wow awesome! Firstly, thanks again for taking the time and effort to document your travels. It’s such a treat to not only see your photos but also to get a first-hand account of your adventures.
Uganda looks like a fantastic biking destination – something I would never have imagined.
It’s refreshing that you took the time to explore the country to the fullest and didn’t just fly through it like most overlanders do. Good luck with the next stretch and we’re looking forward to reading about it!
