Podcast discuss the pitfalls and benefits of being a sponsored Adventure motorcycle rider and tips for businesses.
We have been travelling on BMW’s and DR650’s for more than a decade and been the founders of All Terrain Gear a South African motorcycle adventure gear brand. In our time with the brand, like many companies we sponsored some travellers, and also took up some sponsorships due to our travelers. We learned some valuable lessons.

We’ve started a new company and once again are having to consider sponsor requests. If you have considered dabbling being in a sponsorship relationship with motorbike overland adv products or you’re just curious about it, this is an extensive chat and should give you a clearer understanding of the pros and cons of sponsorship. Even for brands, we offer some tips and info to make better decisions when approached for free stuff.
“Do you ever wonder what’s involved in and how someone gets sponsored for a trip? What do they get and just what do they have to do for the company that is sponsoring them? Each company will have their own specifics for sponsorship and it will likely depend on many things, but to try to get an idea of what it’s all about we asked Michnus and Elsebie Olivier from PikiPiki Overland to sit down and have a chat about sponsorship.”

In addition to this podcast we wrote a comprehensive bit of a weighty article in the link below about the pitfalls, benefits and tips for brands and adventurers thinking of going the sponsorship route.
Hopefully, it can assist people and brands so both win from the experience.

Really enjoyed this pod cast regarding sponsorship. In the past my business also used to sponsor many athletes (Motocross and Freestyle Motocross) and you hit the nail on the head on all your points regarding sponsoring individual(s). We have out tons of free stuff with promises to give us exposure and sales…..never happened. Fully agree on rather discount on product(s) with giving your sponsor exposure. Build that relationship with your sponsor and deliver your promises.
