Why We Decide To Stick To The KLIM KRIOS Helmet

8th March 2022

The crashed, the old, and the new. Our thoughts on our virtual reality PlayStation headsets – KLIM KRIOS 6 yrs of use and the new KRIOS PRO.

KLIM KRIO PRO CARBON ADVENTURE HELMET

They had a good life, been to many countries, were used properly, and were great companions. It is time to retire them and we opted for the newer KRIOS PRO for the next installment.

This is a comprehensive video reviewing the original KLIM KRIOS we used for 6 years. It was time to retire the old KRIOS helmets.

With so many excellent options available as Advmoto helmets we tough on thought about why we decided to stick with KRIOS and got the new KRIO-PRO as they are proven adventure motorcycle helmets. The new KRIOS PRO makes use of the Koroyd impact protection in place of the old EPS liners.

The video also covers the background of where and how the KLIM KRIOS Adventure motorcycle helmet started life and how an accident impacted our decision to stay with KLIM.

The KLIM KRIOS that served us for 6years and more than a 100 000km. This is a review of the good and bad with the dualsport helmets.

Having used the Uvex Carbon for years before KLIM took over the shell and improved on the designs and features. The Uvex was a very good dualsport helmet with excellent protection properties. KLIM made that even better.

One of the reasons we decided to buy the KRIOS was due to being the same platform and we knew if it saved my life in such a severe accident it would be a no-brainer to stick to that formula.

Having used, Arai, Schubert and other helmets, KLIM upped the game with protection and features on their adventure dualsport MX/ Enduro helmets over other established brands. The helmets are made from Carbon layers with the benefit of it being one of the lightest helmets on the market. Weighing around 3-3.1lbs (1.3-1.4Kg) there’s less fatiguing to ride in a Krios Pro.
The KRIOS is ECE and DOT approved.

What is Koroyd and why is KLIM using the technology in their helmets?

“Koroyd provides advanced breathability and ultra-light feel, but first and foremost, better protection, which may reduce the risk of suffering a life-affecting injury.

Koroyd’s welded tubes crumple instantly and consistently on impact, absorbing maximum force in a controlled manner, minimising energy transferred to your head.

Koroyd features the world’s thinnest walled tubes, resulting in a structure which is 95% air. This reduces weight and enhances comfort without compromising on safety.

Traditional energy absorbers (like foams) act like a spring, storing the energy from an impact and releasing it over a micro-moment of time. Due to this, more energy could be transferred to the head, increasing the risk of injury.

When Koroyd is impacted, energy is better absorbed through sacrificial plastic deformation.

The material acts as a true energy absorber (rather than a spring), controlling and dissipating a larger amount of energy before it’s transferred to the head.

Traditional helmet materials solidify when around 60% of the material is compressed, therefore reducing the thickness of the liner that can be utilised to absorb energy which can result in more forces being transferred to the head and brain.

Koroyd can absorb energy using up to 78% of the material’s thickness.  As more energy can be absorbed in a more controlled and consistent manner, the risk of injury may be reduced.

Because of this large compression volume, the structure can endure multiple impacts within one accident and still have material left to absorb energy.  For example, if you crash and roll on rocks, roots or tarmac, your head may hit the ground multiple times.”

MICHNUS, it would be useful to also hear the drawbacks to any product you recommend eg. A friend of mine says it’s a louder helmet than other heavier ones. We all understand that nothing is perfect and it’s selective trade-offs with all gear.
    Thanks
